The New Cross-National Temporality Project (NCNTP), which will take place from June 2022 till May 2025, across Europe, builds on the success of the previous two projects initiated and implemented by the Tbilisi Architecture Biennial (TAB) in 2018 and 2020. These projects focused on two major topics – respectively “Buildings Are Not Enough” and “What Do We Have In Common” and materialized through transnational cooperation.
The New Cross-National Temporality Project brings together organizations from seven countries (Albania, Georgia, Germany, Montenegro, Portugal, Ukraine, and Spain) and is designed to serve as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas among architects, urbanists, artists, researchers, and other interested individuals and organizations from different parts of the world.
Thematically, the project will develop around the notion of “temporality”, which is a massive topic in terms of urbanism and architecture and has gained even more importance against the background of the ongoing public healthcare crisis, which has significantly influenced our understanding of how we use urban spaces.
The new thematic research for the third edition of Tbilisi Architecture Biennial 2022 focuses on the concept of temporality in urban and social life. The concept is based on three main categories: parallel exploration of time, space and the built environment.

This year, the TAB 2022 digital programme focuses on architectures that speak of an era that has already passed and their visions of the future, and which are made accessible through digital media. The individual imagination as a moment of possibility for participation and co-creation, as well as concrete architectures such as the Kartli Sanatorium from Tbilisi or the Parus Hotel in Dnipro.
All three projects, selected for the digital art program of TAB, conceal fractured personal histories in the context of a reflection on the present, both in topographical Tbilisi and the effects of war, displacement, migration, loss and hope in the intersecting experiences of temporality of the architectures: past (Parus), present (Kartli) and future (Dream Together). All digital projects will be presented at the online platforms on 8th of October 2022 at the website ncntp.cynetart.org.
A collaboration between the Digital Solitude program, CYNETART Platform, and Untitled Gallery Tbilisi
The »Digital Solitude Assembly Tbilisi« is a project that was initiated by Untitled Gallery Tbilisi, and emerged from the Digital Solitude network and its 2022 festival edition »Fragile Solidarity/Fragile Connections.« Untitled Gallery Tbilisi invites four artists from their respective communities, and four artists from the Digital Solitude network. This assembly brings together artists to develop new narratives and visions around digital media and technologies, and to promote works by South Caucasian artists working with digital media.
The assembly takes place in the framework of the Tbilisi Architecture Biennale 2022, which focuses on post-Soviet »temporalities« surrounding precarious living spaces, scarce resources, political instability, wars, or difficult means of income. The Biennale addresses present circumstances that do not adhere to concepts of permanence and conceptual stability. The assembly aims to respond to the themes of Tbilisi Architecture Biennale, adding a perspective of the possibilities of digital »built« environments and their temporality. Where do societies with unstable patterns and temporalities stand in this period of transition of both political and digital systems? What is the role of artists working with digital technologies in constructing new utopias to overcome, hack, embrace, or work with those unstable patterns?
Since its founding in 2016, the Digital Solitude program has established a formidable network. The program acknowledges a lack of exchange with the South Caucasus (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan), which is why it’s important for all partners to meet in Tbilisi and explore the possibilities of web-based projects such as Akademie Schloss Solitude’s Web Residency program.
The assembly will kick off with a joint exhibition at Untitled Gallery Tbilisi at 8pm on October 21, 2022, and will continue with discussions, talks, presentations, at the Goethe-Institute Georgien on October 22, 2022, and joint working sessions for two more days.

»Queer deities in migration« brings a Georgian artist duo with the primary goal of supporting queer individuals relocated from the South Caucasus region to Europe due to the issues because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The project aims to establish links between their personal histories and the characteristics and similarities of corresponding deities.
